The Seed

To truly understand our business as it is today, we’d like to share a little with you about how and where we began. We think there is a pleasant story behind our company that you may not already know. The original business, J.R. Holland & Son, was set up by John Holland (senior) back in 1983 and actually began as a small family-run local fruit & vegetable market stall in Gateshead.

In those days, we had a turnover of around £1 million and around 12 staff members – 6 are still with us today. One thing that hasn’t changed since the early days is the way we conduct business. The integrity in which we run our operation and the trusting relationships we nurture with all stakeholders are still an inherent ethos to the business today.

By working with suppliers to constantly deliver an ever-expanding quality product range and maintaining our commitment to exceeding customer expectation, the business has enjoyed exceptional organic growth over the years.
