Artichokes actually have more than one harvest, however, the main harvest takes place in the spring when the largest thistles are available.
Similarly to artichokes, wild rocket is foraged in the spring and also in the autumn. Although cultivated rocket is grown all year round thanks to greenhouses!
Beetroot is in season as soon as the temperature turns to a spring climate. It is important to know that fresh beets are normally sold with their greens still attached.
Top tip if you’re purchasing leeks this season, always look for leeks with green leaves and avoid leeks with wilted tops.
Apricots come into season towards the end of spring and they normally grow best in the warmer areas.
Cherries are normally ready to be harvested at the end of spring in the warmer areas.
Rhubarb is actually one of the first fruits in season in many areas. When looking for rhubarb in the shop – always be sure to get the ones with a heavy stalk and shiny skin.
Peak season for strawberries is actually May through to July in the UK, this can also be stretched to September in some cases. Depending on the climate and the season can change. Sometimes the shortest it can be is actually only a few weeks long if you’re in a really cold climate.
